[混合工作] 📢 Work From Home 政策更新!

Return to office policy case studies from google, salesforce, apple and meta

✳️Google:

✳️Amazon:

[Hybrid Work] 📢 Update on Hybrid Work Policies!

Learn about the latest WFH policies from tech giants:

Google, Salesforce, Amazon, Apple, and Meta have recently made adjustments to their "Hybrid Work Policies." While the policies all emphasize the importance of returning to the office, each company has different implementation approaches. Let's explore the differences below.

✳️Google: Don't clock in today, start looking for a new job tomorrow 😨

Last Wednesday, Google updated its Hybrid Work Policy, requiring most employees to work in the office three days a week. The update also includes tracking colleagues' clock-in records and incorporating them into employees' performance evaluations. A Google spokesperson mentioned that employees who had previously been granted Remote Work permissions should reconsider their decision.

✳️Salesforce: Colleagues returning to the office voluntarily, company donates money to charity 😇

Salesforce asks employees to work in the office for 1-3 days per week. Additionally, Salesforce will donate money to charitable organizations based on the number of days each employee works in the office. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff strongly criticized the practice of mandating employees to return to the office, stating that it "will never work." He pointed out that the "Work Anywhere Model" is a key recruiting advantage for the company in the talent war.

✳️Amazon: Returning to the office facilitates collaboration, learning, and innovation ✍️

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy stated that employees must work in the office for at least three days per week, as it promotes better collaboration, learning, and innovation. Last month, Amazon employees held a sit-in protest, demanding management reconsider the decision. Organizers estimated that over 1,000 Amazon employees participated in the protest at the Amazon Seattle office alone.

✳️Apple: Return three days a week or face warnings 🟥

In March, Apple required employees to return to the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with managers choosing another day of the week. Employees who do not clock in for a minimum of three days per week will face disciplinary action. A survey conducted by the anonymous social network Blind with 700 Apple employees revealed that 56% of them are preparing to "vote with their feet" if the policy doesn't change.

✳️Meta: Some employees return three days a week; young engineers in particular  🏭

Meta also updated its Hybrid Work Policy last Thursday, requiring some employees to return three days a week. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated, "Performance data shows that young engineers who spend at least three days working physically with their teams each week tend to perform better on average."

✳️Returning to the office makes it harder to be replaced by outsourcing 🧑🏾‍💼

Many Hong Kong employees may find the idea of protesting due to returning to the office "unrealistic" (Hong Kong companies usually adopt a one-day-per-week or two-days-per-month WFH policy in a hybrid work setup). HR industry experts also pointed out that returning to the office is not without benefits for employees.

Analysis suggests that "when a company believes that your job can be fully executed remotely, it means your position can be entirely replaced by talent from other low-income countries. Returning to the office can ensure the local value of your position and protect local employees' jobs."
